Just a few kilometers away, Holy Monastery of St. Dimitrios, known also as “Panagia of Oikonomeio” dates back to the Komninon era and is nestled on the slopes of Kissavos.

To the left of Stomio, at Strintzos beach there is Pineios River Delta, a significant wetland with fjords, and a habitat many types of birds. Pineios River Delta ranks among the most important wetlands in Greece as there are coastal and riverside forests, extensive dunes and rich flora and fauna. Delta wetland is protected by RAMSAR convention and captures the interest of scientists. At least 225 kinds of birds have been recorded at Delta, while often flamingos, herons and cormorants contribute to the magic of the already amazing scenery. The area is one of the major stopover sites for migratory birds.

From Stomio to Tempi the traveler passes by Omolio, where they find the Ruins of Ancient Homolius, Profites Ilias chapel and the Stone Bridge, which is said to have been used as a passage by Alexander the Great.

One of the most picturesque and magical landscapes in the world, Tempi is located in a spot of natural beauty where Pineios River flows, thrusting itself through the valley between the Olympus and Kissavos massifs, emptying at the entrance to the Aegean Sea. Amazing scenery characterized by the lushness of its vegetation of plane and willow trees. It is not a coincidence that all travelers, even passers-by,   stop in order to admire the awe-inspiring beauties of Tempi Valley. Whether walking along the suspension bridge over the river to the holy shrine of Agia Paraskevi or canoeing, kayaking or just enjoying a cruise on the “Love Boat”. Tempi Valley was regarded as a holy place in ancient times, since according to legend, Apollo went there to purify himself in the waters of Pineios after killing the serpent Python at Delphi. Along their way through the valley the travelers find Dougo’s winery, which is open to the public, a natural dristella (fulling) used within the process of the traditional washing of carpets, the maintained drezine for a tour along the old rails in the valley – a great effort by the OSE railway employees association housed in the Old Railway Station of Tempi- as well as Dryas Association, an Information Center for the Environment and Culture.

Travelers also have the chance to experience fun and interest rafting along Pineios River within a setting of incredible beauty.

  • Larisa: Home to the second largest ancient theater in Greece, and to a smaller one also of great archaeological importance. Visit the Municipal Art Gallery, the Archeological Museum, the Historical & Folk Art Museum, the Three-aisled Basilica, the Monument of Hippocrates, explore “Papa’s Mill”, the Alkazar Park, walk along the old Turkish Market (Bezesteni), the pedestrian streets (crowed with cafes) the busy Commercial Center, etc
  • Agia: Church of Agios Antonios (formerly used as mental hospital, a Roman Bath, Monasteries and chapels, Mansions, Mosaic Art Atelier, pedestrian streets, commercial market.
  • Agiokampos: Ancient rocky caves of Agioi Anargyroi  recreation area, Port
  • Velika:  a wall (probably part of Filoktitis Castle), Holy Monastery of Agios. I. Theologos, Old Venetian (Enetic) Castle,  Platania Theater
  • Veneto: Flampouri Monastery, Aegeus sea caves
  • Polydendri: the forest of Polydendri-  – former Royal Estat  (Spaces for BBQ, 2 Holy Monasteries of Panagia,  Cycle lanes, ΜΤΒ, Trekking paths with information notes on the flora and fauna, watching spot

  • Spilia: A beautiful mountainous village on the slopes of Kissavos.
  • Anatoli: The woman only multi-ethnic monastery (one and only in Europe), the production unit for organic farming and processing, the Ecclesiastical –Byzantine Museum, the stone bridge, the picturesque village square
  • Ampelakia: George Mavros Mansion (Schwarz Museum), the Cultural Heritage Centre, the Castle of Oria, remarkable monasteries, the Ampelakia Lake
  • Gonnoi: The Folklore Museum of Gonnoi with a rich selection of findings
  • Tempi: Suspension bridge to the holy shrine of Agia Paraskevi (remarkable is the presence of pilgrims on the 26 of July, on the feast of the saint), Rapsani and Dougos wineries, Dryas Centre (Old Tempi Railway Station, mob. 6976977941), “Troizina” a traditional little train(Mr. Triantafyllos, mob.6972255361), “The Love Boat” (Mr. Nikos Tsirikas, mob. 6945079730), Dristella Marga (Fulling, once used for the washing of carpets and blankets)
  • Aigani: on 8th September the three day traditional feast and celebration, on 2nd May Agios Athanasios feast and on the 8th of May the celebration by the “Paliagiannis” stream.
  • Rapsani: Cave, the  Holy Monastery of Agioi Thodoroi, 2 arch stone bridges of the 16th century, the Holy Church of Metamorhposis Sotiros, the Agios Ioannis Prodomos chapel, 15th August feast, the Wine Festival held at the end of August, with the PDO Xynomavro variety.
  • Krania:  Holy churches of Taxiarhes and Panagia, Profetis Ilias church in a forest of perennial oaks, Bourazani fountain.
